AL-FURUSEYA

RUN FOREST RUN

Lush green parks, gardens, running tracks and play areas for kids.  Sounds like one of England’s public parks, but, believe it or not, Tripoli has its very own ‘Hyde Park’.

Al-Furuseya is a public park in the Abusetta area which boasts two large children’s playgrounds, and green fields to run about on.  The park has recently been converted from an old horse racing track so there are few established trees, but the area has been planted out with gardened areas and certainly gives you a feeling of space.  There is a small kiosk and a restaurant on the grounds. Unlike most establishments in Libya, the restaurants and grounds are designated as non-smoking.

For older children or adults there are three types of running tracks, which are approximately 1 km long.  For those missing long stretches of footpaths in which to run upon, the park is a much needed remedy, allowing for a walk, jog or run in the fresh air, outside the confines of a gym.

Training gear should be modest, as the park is public and used by expats and locals alike and does not allow the freedom that a compound might when it comes to dress code.

The park is open daily, with the exception of Tuesdays, between 05.00 and 22.00.  Entry is just 1LYD or for frequent users, monthly memberships are also offered.

For a breath of fresh sea air, and a healthy lifestyle, make sure a visit to Al-Furuseya is on the menu!
