Libya makes unannounced changes to pet import requirements

On or about 1 April 2010 Libya implemented a new animal import policy that affects importation of domestic pets.  Libya now requires that pet owners obtain an entry permit for their pets prior to coming to Libya.  This policy does not appear to have been announced to the general public but Libya-Pet-Vet has been informed that some pets have already been denied permission to board flights coming into Libya.  > read more



Pets, vets and more ...

If you choose not to bring over a pet from your home country, there are opportunities to get one once you arrive. In general, birds are the pet of choice in Libya.  It seems that almost every business and home has a bird hanging outside their door or window. Fresh water fish such as gold fish, tetras, and guppies are becoming more common pet options.  Cats and dogs are also found at some of the stores. > read more

If you have a pet, you understand that they are as much part of the family as you are. Living abroad just won’t feel like home unless you have your four-legged companion with you.  Good news!  You are allowed to bring your cat(s) or dog(s) to Libya.  It has been done by many expats. > read more
